This attractive early Victorian brass cased pocket compass dates to circa 1860.
A striking little compass measuring 42mm in diameter, the elegant blued steel needle is engraved N & S in gold lettering for clarity, and sits over a traditional paper compass dial which is still very clean, incorporating 16 cardinal and intercardinal points with a fleur de lys for North, and an outer scale that divides into four 90 degree quadrants, sitting beneath a domed glass crystal.
In good working order, it weighs just 40 grams, and the brass body is in good original condition with no dents.
