A late Victorian aneroid pocket barometer by Negretti & Zambra, numbered 18360, with a rotating altimeter scale extending to 10,000 feet. Dating to around 1890, it is signed 'FOR DIRECT READING, COMPENSATED NEGRETTI & ZAMBRA, LONDON. 17797' on the dial.

The straight case is made of gilded brass and is dent-free, with virtually all of its original gilding intact. The barometric scale ranges from 22 to 31 inches, and all the lettering and numbers are etched into the clean aluminium dial, which sits beneath a clean, bevelled glass.

It comes with its original velvet and silk lined, fish skin case, which is also in very good condition, with both the hinge and catch in working order. Barometers by Negretti & Zambra are highly sought after, and this is a superb example in excellent condition.

In full working order, it passes the plastic bag test. Measuring 2" (50 mm) in diameter by ½" (12 mm) in depth, it weighs just under 140 grams in its case.
